چکیده
We present numerical solutions of several spacetimes physical interest, including binary black hole mergers, in shift-symmetric Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet (ESGB) gravity, and describe our methods for solving the full equations motion, without approximation, general spacetimes. While we concentrate on specific example ESGB, methods, which make use a recently proposed modification to generalized harmonic formulation, should be generally applicable all Horndeski theories gravity (including relativity). demonstrate that these can stably follow formation scalar clouds about initially vacuum non-spinning spinning holes values Gauss-Bonnet coupling approaching maximum value above hyperbolicity theory breaks down spherical symmetry. study collision with hair, finding remains hyperbolic spacetime region exterior horizons similar regime, includes cases where deviations from relativity gravitational radiation is appreciable. Finally, used inspiral merger ESGB gravity. This allows making predictions strong-field non-perturbative confronted wave observations, compared approximate treatments modifications relativity.

Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity with Dilaton
We obtain cosmological solutions which admit emergent universe (EU) scenario in the framework of Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity coupled with a dilaton field in four dimensions. The coupling parameter of the Gauss-Bonnet terms and the dilaton in the theory are determined for obtaining an EU scenario. The corresponding dilaton potential which admits such scenario is determined. It is found that th...
متن کاملPhase space of modified Gauss–Bonnet gravity
We investigate the evolution of non-vacuum Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) spacetimes with any spatial curvature in the context of Gauss-Bonnet gravity. The analysis employs a new method which enables us to explore the phase space of any specific theory of this class. We consider several examples, discussing the transition from a decelerating into an acceleration universe within thes...
متن کاملScalar-Tensor Gravity on a Gauss-Bonnet Brane World
The effective four-dimensional, linearised gravity for a brane world model with higher order curvature terms and a bulk scalar field is analysed. Large and small distance gravitational laws are derived. The model has a single brane embedded in a fivedimensional bulk spacetime, and the scalar field represents the dilaton or a moduli field. The quadratic, Gauss-Bonnet curvature term (and correspo...
متن کاملGauss-Bonnet Brane World Gravity with a Scalar Field
The effective four-dimensional, linearised gravity of a brane world model with one extra dimension and a single brane is analysed [1, 2]. The model includes higher order curvature terms (such as the Gauss-Bonnet term) and a conformally coupled scalar field. Large and small distance gravitational laws are derived. In contrast to the corresponding Einstein gravity models, it is possible to obtain...
متن کاملHamilton–Jacobi counterterms for Einstein–Gauss–Bonnet gravity
The on-shell gravitational action and the boundary stress tensor are essential ingredients in the study of black hole thermodynamics. We employ the Hamilton–Jacobi method to calculate the boundary counterterms necessary to remove the divergences and allow the study of the thermodynamics of Einstein–Gauss–Bonnet black holes.
